THERAPEUTIC LANDSCAPE

WELL-BEING IN THE FOREST
THE PSYCHO-EMOTIONAL IMPACT OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

It is known that greenery and landscape are able to provide neurological, psychological and emotional nourishment to the organism, as already expressed in 1984 by the sociologist E.O. Wilson with the famous concept of “Biophilia”. Since then, many university and clinical studies have been continuing to demonstrate that frequenting forests, parks, and gardens can activate beneficial therapeutic responses on a psycho-emotional and therefore physical level.

Recent research conducted in Sweden and Denmark, aimed at understanding the mechanisms of stress reduction through the so-called “Visitor’s Mental Power”, have shown that some elements of the green landscape are more effective than others in acting positively on certain mental models (archetypes) generated by our psyche, producing favourable psycho-emotional responses.

Within Parco del Respiro, in its forest areas and along the paths, you will find a variety of types of “archetypal environments” or “rooms”, accessible and compatible with the structure and morphology of the place, in order to activate to the full the well-being that nature can give you.

These locations offer their scenic natural backdrop also for possible study or teamwork meetings, as well as for a peaceful relaxation.

The paths of the Park

Doss Castel, the archaeological site

Doss Castel is a rocky spur that rises in a strategic position in control of the Adige Valley, in the middle of the eastern border of the plateau of Fai della Paganella. The archaeological site is easily accessible on foot, in approximately 30-40 minutes from the central square of the village. The discovery of the existence of a settlement on the hill dates back to 1979.

As a consequence of this report, the Archaeological Heritage Office of the Autonomous Province of Trento has promoted a still ongoing series of research. The oldest finding so far consists of a small stone axe from the Late Neolithic, while the first traces of settlement date back to the Bronze Age.

However, most of the unearthed materials and wall structures are linked to a village which arose in the Rhaetian period. In this village we can see the foundations of some small single-family houses with quadrangular perimeter consisting of dry-stone or rocky walls.
